Sure, Brad Pitt has those dreamy blue eyes, that head of hair and those totally smoochable lips. But, come on, now. No one, not even the two-time Sexiest Man Alive winner, can compete with the sexiest woman — like, ever.
Last year, Pitt became the first man to star as the face of Chanel N° 5, but Marilyn Monroe will be handling things, come Nov. 17, thank you very much.
Actually, the partnership has been a long time coming. As the film, Marilyn and N° 5, part of the Inside Chanel Web series, notes, it was back in 1952, when the screen legend and style icon told a Life magazine reporter that the only thing she wore to bed was a few drops of the fragrance.
During audio from a 1960 interview with Marie Claire run in the video, Monroe can be heard confirming the legendary line: “They ask me: ‘What do you wear to bed? A pajama top? The bottoms of the pajamas? A nightgown?’ So I said, ‘Chanel N° 5,’ because it’s the truth… And yet, I don’t want to say nude. But it’s the truth!”
Monroe, who died in 1962 at age 36, will be featured in TV and print ads. According to The New York Times, Monroe has been starring in several campaigns as of late, noting Sexy Hair, a hair care brand featured the star in ads this summer with the tagline, “Styles change. Sexy is forever.”
Macy’s launched a Marilyn Monroe collection aimed at teens and women ages 13 to 22 in March, the newspaper reports, adding that Three Olives came out with a Marilyn Monroe Strawberry Vodka the same month and Bed Bath & Beyond features a Monroe towel line.
So, while Mr. Angelina Jolie is certainly easy on the eyes, well, it’s hard to compete with Marilyn, and we'd be pretty stunned if her image doesn't move a lot of perfume. As she said, “it’s the truth!”
